Eunice Leila Schneider, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells. She was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1927, to Albert and Anna (Meyer) Struck at the Struck Brothers family farm, County Trunk S, rural Reedsburg. She was baptized on Easter Sunday 1927 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. Her education began at Pleasant Valley Country School through 3rd grade and then continued through 8th grade at St. Peter’s Lutheran School, Reedsburg. During and after World War II, she worked at Norman’s Cleaners in Reedsburg. At this time she also wrote hundreds of letters to servicemen to help keep their morale up while fighting for our country’s freedom. She received hundreds of letters and many gifts in return. On Columbus Day, October 12, 1951, she married Roger Schneider at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Reedsburg. To this union two daughters were born. She and Roger purchased his family farm and she lived there until the flood of 2008 forced her from her home. She enjoyed raising her children, chickens, sold eggs, loved working in her beautiful flower beds and growing her prize winning fruits and vegetables. After spring rains, she would walk the freshly plowed fields in search of Indian arrowheads, copper spear points, and other Indian artifacts and amassed a large collection. In later years she enjoyed her grandchildren (and they adored her), traveling, collecting and selling antiques, playing cards and genealogy. At the end she enjoyed watching C-Span and always enjoyed a good political discussion. She was very proud of her German heritage, was a member of St. Peter’s Golden Agers and past member of the Sauk County Historical Society and the Reedsburg Area Senior Citizens. Eunice is survived by her daughters, Joan Martin and Marcia (James M.) Montgomery; three grandchildren, Jay Martin, Kyle (Jenny Gross) Martin and Leigh Ann (Alexander) Moss; one brother, Lorenz (Elva) Struck; brothers-in-law: Alfred (Barbara) Schneider, Julius (Adeline) Herritz and Ken Jicha; sisters-in-law: Wilma Koenecke and Audrey (Gene) Sinner and many other relatives, neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in December 2002, beloved son-in-law, Ray Martin, sister, Gertrude Schneider, sisters-in-law, Crystal Herritz and Mary Lou Jicha, and brothers-in-law, Ewald Schneider and James Koenecke. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at ST. PETER’S EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH in Reedsburg with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the HOOF FUNERAL HOME in Reedsburg and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
