Roger L. Emery, age 83, of Rome, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center surrounded by his family. He was born on October 26, 1933 in Helenville, the son of Albert and Edna (Lundt) Emery. Roger was a 1951 graduate of Palmyra High School. On June 8, 1957, he was married to the former Janice Hanson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1958 to 1960. Roger worked as a carpenter and could build anything. Following his retirement he enjoyed taking care of his lawn, watching the birds, visiting with the neighbors and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, a former member of the Rome Fire Department and was also a volunteer EMT for many years. Roger served as Scout Master for the Rome Boy Scout Troop 97 for several years. Survivors include his wife, Jan; two children: Dr. Dana Emery, of Rome and Chris (Denise) Emery, of Helenville; four grandchildren: Joshua, Chance, Katherine and Anna; his sister: Jean Steinhoff, of Palmyra; a brother-in-law: Daryl (Virginia) Hanson, of Madison; two sisters-in-law: Tena Kromrey, of Janesville and Paola Hanson, of Orlando, FL; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Lynne Marie Emery; his parents and three brothers-in-law: Jim Hanson, John Steinhoff and Harold Kromrey. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Rome with Pastor Mike Mannisto officiating. Interment with military rites will be in St. Luke's Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday and after 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday all at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Rome. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Luke's Lutheran Church would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg is serving the family.
