John V. Scoles, age 86, of Reedsburg, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Sauk County Health Care Center. Beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great-Great Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend of Many. He especially loved his dog “Toby.” John was born on October 27, 1930 in Rockbridge, Richland County, the son of Jack and Lily (Mellom) Scoles. On November 27, 1952, he was married to the former Shirley Johnson at the Elroy Congregational Church. They resided in Elroy until John was relocated to Reedsburg and they found their dream home with 15 acres just on the outskirts of Reedsburg. John inspired us all with his positive attitude, kindness, integrity and love. John loved and adored his grandchildren and spent many hours enjoying them all. He also enjoyed his golfing and card playing buddies. John was an avid outdoorsman especially with his hunting and fishing. He was a life member of the Reedsburg Outdoor Club and an active member of the United Methodist Church in Reedsburg. John was also a 20 year member of the Reedsburg Fire Department. He retired after over 40 years of employment with Wisconsin Dairies. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; children: Linda (Jack) Dempsey, of Wonewoc; Sheri (Paul) Huebner, of Beaver Dam and Helen Powell, of Reedsburg; his grandchildren: Steve (Nikki) Dempsey, Jenny (Nick) Baldwin, Joshua (Jayme) Powell, Adam (Jessica) Powell and Amber (Jerry) Horkan; 10 great grandchildren plus 1 great-great grandchild and three sisters: Betsy Tennyson, Carole Fowler and Nancy Dorado; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: J.T. Scoles and his siblings: Patrick, Gordon, Jerry, Helen James and Wanda Biermeier. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Marvin Singh officiating. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Reedsburg Outdoor Club, United Methodist Church or the local animal shelter would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
