Helen Evelyn (Rollette) Cunningham, age 100, died peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Helen was born on March 23, 1917 in Cazenovia, WI, the fourth of nine children to Joseph and Carrie (Gasser) Rollette. Helen grew up on a 200 acre farm outside of Cazenovia and walked to St. Anthony's Grade School in Germantown and graduated from Cazenovia High School. She married James Cunningham who grew up on an adjacent farm on May 3, 1938 and they had five daughters and one son. After working in Madison for some years, they moved to Cazenovia and farmed until they retired. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; brothers: Robert and Ervin; sister: Alice Reum; brother and sisters-in-law: Ronald and Arlene Rollette; Glen and Lorraine Rollette; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mike and Lorraine Rego; Bernie and Mary Geist; son-in laws: Irvin Thompson, Larry Brandt, and Phil Bauer along with her grandson: Rowen Matthew Smith. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law: Jeri and George Smith; brother-in-law: Arnie Reum; sister-in-law: Mary Rollette; her children: Judy Thompson of Cazenovia; Joan Brandt of Reedsburg; Ellen Browning of Madison; Jan and Jim Oler of Stoughton; Jim and Ardell Cunningham of LaValle; Bob and Amy Roy of Milton; 24 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Helen was also anticipating the pending births of twin great-great grandchildren in November. Helen was dedicated to her family, community, faith and was a very active member of St. Anthony's Church in Germantown/Cazenovia and after moving to Reedsburg in 1993 an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, often attending daily mass. Helen was known for her dedication to family, love of children, generosity, hard work, integrity, sense of humor, ability to recall local and family history, incredible interests and skills in sewing, baking, gardening, quilting, card playing and so much more. She will always be remembered and treasured as an inspiration as a mother, grandmother, and role model and as an exceptional friend. Special thanks to Dr. Phelan, Dr. Musa, and nurse, Tama of St. Mary's Hospital, Madison for not only their expertise but going above and beyond, to all the nurses at St. Mary's and Home Health United Hospice of Sauk County for their warmth and care. Visitation will be at the Hoof Funeral Home, 312 N Park St, Reedsburg from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cazenovia at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 with burial and luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart School, Reedsburg or to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cazenovia. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
