James Louis "Papa" Pistello, age 91, of LaValle, died on Sunday, December 3, 2017. He was born on November 26, 1926 in Chicago, the son of Dominick and Helen (Kostner) Pistello. Jim was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in Japan. On May 15, 1947, he was married to the former Helen May. They had been married for seventy years and together they created a loving family. Jim worked as a grocery store manager for thirty-two years and later worked in customer service for the water department in Villa Park, Illinois. Following retirement, they lived on Lake Redstone in LaValle where Jim enjoyed boating and fishing. He and Helen also enjoyed traveling and wintered in Florida for twenty-eight years. Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion both of LaValle. A man of God, he loved and cared for his family and faithfully supported his church. Jim was quite a family man who loved to clown around, had a great sense of humor and was always there for a friend in need. Survivors include his wife, Helen; one son: Bill (Donna) Pistello, of Villa Park, IL; one daughter: Joy Houghton, of Reedsburg; six grandchildren: Michael Pistello, Joseph Pistello, James Taracek, Joy Marie Houghton, Spencer Houghton and Jacqueline Barr; five great-grandchildren: Jace, Ashton, Kaden, Wyatt and Stella; one brother: Bill (Carolyn) Quehl, of Minnesota; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Joseph and Emil. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle with Father Sanctus Ibe officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Reedsburg Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg and after 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church or Agrace HospiceCare would be appreciated. The family would like to give special thanks to Rich, Annette and Stephanie for the love and care provided to both Jim and Helen. We unite to say we will miss you Papa. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
