Terrence "Terry" Kurtzweil

Terrence J. Kurtzweil, age 95, formerly of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Oak Park Place in Baraboo. Terrence was born on August 27, 1922 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin the son of Henry and Virginia (Fagan) Kurtzweil. His father was transferred to Stevens Point, WI in 1936 where he finished high school. He attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point for two years before transferring to Marquette University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating and serving in the U.S. Navy, he obtained his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Throughout his engineering career he was employed with Campell Machine Works, Mercury Marine and Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He held this license until he received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Cleveland Marshall Law School at Cleveland State University. He was sworn in and admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court on October 2, 1967. He opened his own law practice in Avon, Ohio while teaching part-time at Lorain County Community College until his retirement in 1983. In 1983, Terry and Jean relocated to their lake home in Reedsburg, WI. On October 25, 1952, he was united in the sacrament of marriage to Jean Laura Schaaf. Together they celebrated 63 wonderful years before Jean preceded Terry in death in September of 2015. Terry was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg. His hobbies included trains, traveling, reading and spending time with his family. Survivors include his eight children: Margaret (ken) Michalik, of South Lyon, MI; John (Karri) Kurtzweil, of Raleigh, NC; Richard (Judy) Kurtzweil, of Bolingbrook, IL; Mary Kurtzweil, of Sun Prairie, WI; Patricia (Kurt) Koenecke, of Reedsburg, WI; Anne (Carl) Glowcheski, of Oshkosh, WI; Donald (Bonnie) Kurtzweil, of Lodi, WI and Joseph (Karen) Kurtzweil, of Avon, OH; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Claire Molnar, of Denver, CO; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Jean; one grandson: Jacob Koenecke; one brother: James Kurtzweil and one sister: Joan Lassanske. A private Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family. The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Matthew Herbst, the staff at Oak Park Place in Baraboo and Agrace Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
