Normington, Eleanor A. “Ellie” - Reedsburg 1927 - 2018 Born to Ray Stillman Hulce and Lenna Grace (Baker) Hulce, Ellie grew up in Whitewater WI, graduated from Whitewater high school and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she earned a degree in occupational therapy. As a student at the UW she met a young John Normington, an ag student, who not too much later borrowed a few cows from the UW Ag school and tied them to the front steps of Ellie’s sorority leaving all the girls afraid to leave the sorority house and go to class that day. Their relationship ensued. After graduating, John being in the Army Reserve was recalled for the Korean War. Ellie went with him to be stationed in Colorado where they were married. Ellie Hulce became Ellie Normington. With the Korean War over, Ellie and John moved back to a farm they had purchased outside of Loganville, Wisconsin. John farmed and Ellie worked as an occupational therapist at the nearby county farm. A couple kids and a few years later, Ellie returned to school to become a teacher. From then on, teaching was her career and passion. In her later years, when I would take her to her favorite place for lunch at the Deli Bean in Reedsburg, it never failed that another customer would approach her and introduce themselves as having had her as their 4th grade teacher. If you lived in small town Reedsburg in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, you probably had Ellie as your third or fourth grade teacher. She touched many lives. Ellie loved to teach and even after retiring, worked as a mentor for many children. She enjoyed studying and determining family history along with family relative Dick Baker. She is survived by her son Doug Normington, granddaughter Sara Normington and grandson Nathan Anderson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Reedsburg with Rev. Joseph Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
