Doris (Black) Gade, age 90, of Reedsburg, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Sauk County Health Care Center. She was born at St. Mary's Ringling Hospital in Baraboo on February 15, 1929, the only child of Grant and Gertrude (Herritz) Black. She grew up on the family farm near Rock Springs, in the township of Freedom. As a child she attended Sunday School and Church with her parents at the North Freedom Baptist Church. Years later, in 1947, she was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. In the following year of 1948, she transferred membership to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. After completing grades 1 through 8 at Diamond Hill one-room country school, she attended Reedsburg High School graduating with the class of 1946. Following high school she was employed in Madison at the Bank of Madison, then returned to Reedsburg to work 4 years at the Otto Krause office. She later worked as the bookkeeper at Reedsburg Food Corporation (now Lakeside Foods) for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. On June 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Rueben W. Gade at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, where she and her husband remained faithful members. Also in 1948, Rueben and Doris invested in a downtown Reedsburg business, becoming co-owners of Kleeber Motor Sales Ford dealership. This was their life for the next 30 years, although she continued her employment at the Reedsburg Foods office until her retirement. Her husband Rueben preceded her in death on September 2, 1991. Also she preceded her in death by her parents, grandparents, cousins, all of her aunts and uncles, her mother and father-in-law, her brother-in-law: William Gade and her sister-in-law: Helen (Gerald) Gant. Survivors include her special friends: Janet Klipp and Evelyn "Katie" Radtke, cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and many friends. She treasured the times spent with her husband traveling, fishing, boating and dancing to the music of the big bands of the 40's and 50's. She loved going "Up North" to the North woods of Wisconsin and Michigan's UP, and also enjoyed the hills and valleys of her own Sauk County and surrounding areas. Among her other interests were swimming at Devil's Lake State Park, attending country music concerts and spending as much time as possible with her parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Tim Anderson officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a visitation after 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
