John E. Shaffer Jr., age 77, of Reedsburg, died peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 13, 1942 in Kenosha, the son of John E. and Helen A. (Wegner) Shaffer Sr. John was a Security Policeman with the United States Military retiring after 20 years in 1985. He later worked as a truck driver for several different companies. On June 19, 1999, he was married to the former Linda McCarron. John enjoyed model shipbuilding, making dragon flies out of wood, new cars, drawing and electronics. John received many calls from family and friends to help repair their computers. He also enjoyed watching sports especially the Chicago Cubs as well as spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife: Linda; two children: John (Bonnie) Shaffer III, of Rapid City, South Dakota and Cyndi Hughes, and her husband, Duane Clubb, of Hot Springs, South Dakota; two stepchildren: Michael McCarron, and his special friend, Linda Helsing, of Reedsburg and Michele (Chuck) Andres, of Reedsburg; eight grandchildren: Andrew, Cherelle, Chelsey, Charlee, Shannon, McKaylee, Tanner and Tierney; eleven great-grandchildren; his sister: Marty (Jim) Tinker, of Kenosha; his sister-in-law: Judy (Mac) McDonough, of Lime Ridge; a special niece: Susie (Frank) Belsito; a special nephew: Mike (Lucy) Talbert; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Mary Ann (George) McCarron. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the Hoof Funeral Home with Brother Brian Highshaw officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Reedsburg Veterans Honor Guard following the service. There will be a visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
