Karen K. (Kaus) Hoefs, age 76, of Hillsboro, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. She was born on August 6, 1943 in Monroe County, living almost all her life in the Hillsboro area. On June 15, 1963, she married Robert Hoefs. In 1974, she was employed by the Schiefelbein family who owned and operated the green houses and floral shop. In 1979, she and her husband purchased and operated the Wonewoc Bakery until 1997 when they retired. Her hobbies during her years at the bakery was making and decorating the holiday cakes and cookies. But most of all the new friends made over the years. The best hobby was making crafts and memories, playing cards and games with the grandkids. Survivors include her husband: Robert; son: Kenneth Hoefs, of Hillsboro; son: Keith Hoefs, of Reedsburg, and his children: Michael, Ashley and Alexandra; brother: Kevin (Barb) Kaus, of North Freedom; sister: Kathy (Bernal) Granger, of Hillsboro; aunts: Donna (Sherman) Swanson, of Big Bend and Lila Grawin, of Tomah. She is also survived by her very much loved adopted family: Randall and Deb Seeley, of Hillsboro, and their children: Brandon, Tyler, Alexis Seeley-Peterson and family; Steve and Ashton Peterson and Faith Seeley. Each one of them held a special place in grandma’s heart. Also survived by in-laws: Betty and Niles Meltesen, of Camp Douglas; Karen and Bob Buser, of Stoughton and Mildred Jones, of Tomah; a lifelong special friend since third grade: Donna Kay McCoy, of Valley; many cousins; nieces, nephews and many friends. Karen was preceded in death by her daughter: Kimberly K. Hoefs, on September 6, 2013; a great-granddaughter: Grace Ann Seeley; her parents: and Gerald Kaus; grandparents: Phillip and Ella Buccholz, Herman and Jessie Kaus; her inlaws: August and Nina Hoefs; also brother-in-law: Howard and his wife, Lorraine Hoefs. A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg is serving the family.
